Etsivä (The Detective) is a short 360° 3D film on how Virtual Reality changes our perception of artworks and exhibitions.
VR promises the closest thing to “actually being there”. Taking this promise at face-value, the film sets out to create the best possible representation of an exhibition. But we know any kind of reproduction will kill the works’ aura. The Detective sets out to find out this murder mystery.
The Detective is both a part of and a film on ARS17, Kiasma Museum’s quinquennial exhibition. As the show has ended, Etsivä remains as the most realistic documentation of what it was.
An edition of five lenticular prints, each 100 x 75 cm, accompanies the film.
